The number thirteen gets a bad rap. There’s the infamous “Friday the 13th” and even some office buildings and hotels don’t have a 13th floor due to its unlucky nature. But at Mary Kay, we love “13”!
Fifty-two years ago today, September 13, 1963, Mary Kay Ash opened “Beauty by Mary Kay” in a 500-square-foot storefront in Dallas with a product line consisting of nine skin care and color cosmetics. Today, Mary Kay’s product portfolio has more than 200 skin care, fragrance and color cosmetics products sold by 3.5 million independent beauty consultants in more than 35 markets around the world. Did we mention that September 13, 1963 was also a Friday? With our global growth in the last five decades, you can see why “13” has become a special number for us.
Mary Kay Ash said it best, “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” Today, on our anniversary, we celebrate Mary Kay’s legacy and the millions of women’s lives we hope to enrich for many years to come.
